You cannot talk about vertical gardens without mentioning Patrick Blanc the pioneer. A botanist by profession, he came up with the green wall concept that creates green façades on otherwise plain buildings. He uses a lightweight structure as an alternative to soil; which is composed of a metal frame, a thin sheet of PVC, and a layer of felt. The plants do not damage the buildings' structure as a mineral and water complex provides the needed hydration and nutrients.Check out some of his work here.
